November 9, 2017 ─ Every year the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recruits small businesses to attend their Emerging Leaders Initiative to stimulate and support the expansion of these businesses. Blue Sky is excited to announce its graduation from this incredible initiative. The U.S. SBA was established in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to help assist small businesses in order to preserve free competitive enterprise to maintain and strengthen the economy of our nation. The mission that the U.S. SBA has set in place is to help Americans start, build, and grow businesses by providing an impressive network of partnership with public and private organizations.
Considering small businesses in underserved cities added close to three times as many jobs to their local economies as large companies over the last decade, the SBA launched the Emerging Leaders Initiative to capitalize on this proven capacity for stimulating jobs and growth in America’s cities. The initiative includes federal training mainly provided for executives of businesses deemed for growth in historically challenged communities. The Emerging Leaders Initiative provided the Blue Sky CEO, Melissa Peterson, with the organizational framework, resource network, and motivation required to build a sustainable business and promote the economic development within Blue Sky’s community. Melissa Peterson took advantage of working with experienced mentors, attending specialized workshops and developing connections with peer, city leaders, and the financial community.
The Emerging Leaders Initiative has helped Blue Sky overall by preparing and encouraging it to move to the next level on its growth trajectory.
